Boldrewood Campus, Southampton University

Southampton, Great Britain

To meet the every-day challenges of today’s learning and working environment, the Boldrewood Campus at Southampton University has been transformed into an ultra-modern centre for research: the new buildings are united through their material palette composed mainly of Jura Limestone, zinc panels, terracotta, aluminium, glass and cedar boarding.

Grimshaw Architects have created harmony between the buildings by applying a similar combination of these materials and yet distinguished each facility by a diversity of proportions with which the materials were used.

The façade panels of Jura Gold were installed by Szerelmey on rainscreen cladding. The major part of the 4 cm thick honed limestone panels was supplied by the factory already with the soffits fixed with Fischer brackets or pinned and glued, many of which requiring miter cuts, rake cuts, corbel slots and honed edges.
