Kremmergaarden Senter

Architect: Plot Arkitekter

Ålesund, Norway

The completion of the „Kremmergaarden Senter“  in the centre of Ålesund has turned the property into a real gem. The existing shopping centre received a four-storey superstructure, dimensioned to house office space.

In order to make the modern building appear as a whole, the existing façade was removed. It was replaced by an intricate combination of stone, glass and aluminum, in which no deviations in the stone façade were allowed.

The interplay of these various materials lends the façade a lightness that harmonizes well with the nearby Art Nouveau buildings.

The stone slabs are made of 3 cm thick Jura Cream limestone with a honed surface. They were produced according to cutting lists and provided with Fischer anchor drill holes.
